1. Rec Room Walkthrough overview
Rec Room is an MMO and also classified as a "Collectible" game. The collectibles aren't related to any achievements and revolve around clothing for your avatar. I think the game could be classified as a Social game, more than anything, and also a sandbox. I say sandbox due to the ability to create your own rooms/games.
I say Social because it is the primary function of the game. I believe it is built around the ability to communicate with people, friends or strangers, and play games with them if you choose.
You will begin in a dormitory and can earn most of the achievements there. A few will require contact with other players and the final 2, the longest 2, will require gaining experience. Experience and level don't affect the gameplay much and only really add to your clothing collection since you get a free piece of clothing every time you level up. Levelling up is scaled so each level takes longer and this is the reason that the game is 200+ hours to complete.
I can't say I like the game. I can't say I dislike the game. I do like that it is free and I also liked playing a few of the feature game rooms they have but those get old really fast. I don't like the constant updates and especially the updates that break the game. The company is fast to fix any errors and that is a strong positive. For all the reasons I just mentioned I would recommend the game for achievements but wouldn't recommend it to a regular gamer.
The WT will be set up to help you gain the majority of the achievements in 30 minutes. The final 2 achievements are going to take a daily grind, since experience is capped after 2-3 hours or so, and these are going to be the longest part of the game.
Thankfully you can earn all the experience you need by entering the main hub of the game (^RecCenter) and don't actually need to play any of their silly games (which get old real fast). Anyways, on with the show.
2. Hints and Tips
- Controls:
For the controls, I would normally put a list here of what each button does but most are useless in the game. The WT will instruct you on how to do each step, what buttons to push and what not so here I just want to inform you that the triggers/bumpers are your primary buttons in the game since they control your hands. For the most part, it just waves your hands around. Some games will allow you to use weapons or items but these are also using the triggers/bumpers.
- 🅐 always makes you jump, from what I can tell.
Hints/Tips:
To level up just go to the ^RecCenter, flip the controller upside down and lean it slightly on the 🅡🅢 to spin in a circle. I found this far less damaging to a controller compared to using an elastic band. If you have an old/damaged controller already then just use that and apply said elastic band.
3. Rec Room Story walkthrough
Note: The majority of the achievements in this game can be earned in about 30 minutes. The other 2 will take quite a few days. The reason for this is an experience cap that happens somewhere between 2-3 hrs.
The game will first require you to make a character. Simply follow the steps on screen until you reach your dorm room. Press ≡ and click Play in the top left corner. Select a room and go to it. This should unlock:
Return to ^DormRoom by pressing ≡ and selecting it in the bottom row. Go to the mirror, select "Outfits" in the bottom left corner, hit the save icon, take a picture of yourself, and save again to unlock:
Press ≡, hit the create button, select ^MakerRoom and name it, After it loads hit ≡ again and select "This Room" then select the save button to finally unlock:
Next, select the setting button (which looks like a gear icon). Select "Change Cover Photo", take a picture of your room by pressing 🅛🅣 and confirm it. Now, press "Publish" twice then ok before you back out and unlock:

Press ≡ and select ^RecCenter to go the main hub of the game.
Open the watch by hitting ≡ and go to "People". Press the green friend button next to their name to add them.
Press ≡, go to "People", select a person (or a friend from your list) and click the green icon that says "Cheer". It shouldn't matter what type of cheer you pick. After you have sent a cheer you will unlock:

Press cn_right and select fist bump which is the bottom right corner of the wheel that appears. You need to go around hoping someone fist bumps you back. When someone does, didn't take long for me, you will unlock:
You can also use ≡ , go to "People", select a person (or a friend from your list) and click the blue icon that says "Party Up"
The rest of the achievements will take time. You have an experience cap that makes it impossible to earn quickly. It is debatable when this experience cap kicks in but through my own experience, I believe it is 2-3 hrs of gameplay.
You can play in a room with friends, you can join an empty room and spin, or you can do what I do. What I do is go to the ^RecCenter, flip the controller upside down and lean it slightly on the 🅡🅢 to spin in a circle.
This works best if you use a book to put under one side to slightly elevate one side. I found this far less damaging to a controller compared to using an elastic band. If you have an old/damaged controller already then just use that and apply said elastic band.
I always stand still until I am kicked out for being afk but I think leaving the room to enter your dorm should do the same thing. XP isn't gained until you exit ^RecCenter. Once you hit level 30 you will unlock:
